What are PDF forms?

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange.  PDF documents maintain the look of an original document, and they can be viewed on any Macintosh, PC, or Unix computers.  Adobe Reader is required to open and view PDF documents.
How do I get Adobe Reader

You may download a free copy of Adobe  Reader at the following link:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
I Can not find the form that I am looking for:

All forms relevant to N.S.U.S.D. of 1812 business, are located under the forms section of the members' website.  This also includes NIP forms.  If you are still not able to find what you are looking for, contact the Electronic Communications Chairman National at the following address: naj70@hughes.net
My email address or state/chapter website address on the National Website is wrong :

Please inform the Electronic Communications Chairman National so that she my update the national website with the correct information.
My state/chapter would like a webpage, how do we get one?

The National Electronic Communications Committee will be happy to provide you with a basic webpage, free of charge.  Simply provide an email contact, a short history of your state/chapter, and when meetings take place.  To request a webpage, please contact the National Assistant Webmaster, Barbara Doody at: bdoody@bellsouth.net
My state/chapter would like to design a website, using our own webmaster .  Are there any regulations?

The purpose of having a website is to provide prospective members with a place where they can learn about the Society and to also provide them with a contact.

Please be mindful when creating your own websites.  The internet is a vast place and information posted is viewable to everyone.  Unless you have a private "members" site, separate from your public site, I would discourage posting personal information such as home addresses or meeting locations.  Rather post a general statement and provide an email address for contact purposes.  Example:
"For further information, please contact us at myemail@email.com"

If the 1812 Insignia is to be used, please provide the following disclaimer on your website:

"The U.S.D. of 1812 Insignia is the property of and is copyrighted by the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812.  Authorization must be received by the National Society."

If your site will contain outside links, please provide the following disclaimer:

"Web hyperlinks to non-U.S.D. of 1812 sites are not the responsibility of the N.S.U.S.D. of 1812, the state societies, or  individual U.S.D. of 1812 chapters"

Add links to your state society and to the National Society.
Please add a link on your site to your state society's site, if applicable, and to the National Society's public site. (www.usdaughters1812.org)  This will make additional resources available to prospective members.  Under NO circumstances should you add a link to the National Society's Members' webiste.  This site is strictly for members only and contains private and sensitive member information.

PROTECT PERSONAL AND OFFICIAL SOCIETY INFORMATION..
Do not post members' national numbers or any official U.S.D. of 1812 business
of any kind. This kind of information is strictly for members of the Society and
should never be posted publicly or given to non-members. Never post personal
information about a member.  Never link to any of the forms or business on the
National Society's members' site. This also applies for state society private
members' sites.  These sites are strictly for members only.  If you would like to
have a place where your members can retrieve business relevant to your
chapter or state, please consider creating a second, private, members' only site.

Remember to keep your site updated!

Please remember to keep your website current and up to date.  Make sure you notify your webmaster of any changes, such as email contact changes and State President changes, so that she can make the updates.  If your webmaster is no longer interested in maintaining your site, or if you do not know who your webmaster is, please contact the National Assistant Webmaster, Barbara Doody at: bdoody@bellsouth.net, as she will be happy to help.
Insignia
Insignia protocol regarding the use of Rootsweb (Ancestry.com) servers:
The insignia of the Society should always be given the place of honor.  It should be placed in the center above or in the upper left-hand corner above all printing.  Nothing should be placed above the insignia of the Society.

In 2008, Rootsweb merged with Ancestry.com.  Ancestry.com is now placing banners at the top of all websites that are housed on their servers.

In June of 2008, the National Society granted permission to chapter and state societies, to continue the use of the insignia on websites that are housed on Rootsweb
( Ancestry.com.)  If this policy changes, members will be notified.

For insignia and public logo graphics, please visit the graphics page.

How to Bypass the Members' Login Page:  B

For easier access to the members' portion of the website, you may bypass the members' login page by simply using the following link: http://www.usdaughters1812.org/members2.html

Once you have the page pulled up, simply book mark it and you will be able to always go directly to the members' site - with out having to type in the password.

The internet can be a dangerous place.  Since personal contact information is posted on the members' site, the password login page is designed to keep the public out.

What is the Secondary Website? s

A secondary website has been launched for members who may be having compatibility issues with the main U.S.D. of 1812 website.  This secondary index site, does not contain any scripting or graphics, and is a basic site.  This will eliminate the possibility of conflicts.  If you know of any members who are having a difficult time accessing or using the N.S.U.S.D. of 1812 website, please inform them of the secondary site.  The address to the secondary index site is: http://www.usdaughters1812.org/Index/index.html

Incompatibility Issues  i

Unfortunately, not all software is created equally.  The N.S.U.S.D. of 1812 website, is viewed best with IE 6 or higher.  Many of the scripting codes are designed for newer browsers and systems.  Conflicts can occur when something on a system is not able to understand the coding.  There are several reasons why this could happen..  Since each system is different, it would be impossible to resolve every system conflict, remotely.   If you are having any sort of "lock ups" or anti virus program blocks or warnings, you are having a conflict and should use the secondary site.

Anti virus programs are another issue.  Some anti virus programs will throw a warning, if the program does not recognize a piece of coding.  A false positive, if you will.  Although the coding in question, may not be harmful, if a virus program is not sure what it is, it will see it as questionable and "sound the alarm."  Not all virus programs will do this, only some.  The National 1812 Website does not have any viruses of any kind, and is scanned on a regular basis.  However, if your virus program is blocking, or warning you against the site, please use the secondary site.   http://www.usdaughters1812.org/Index/index.html

If you are not able to access the secondary site, then it is recommended that you contact your internet service provider (ISP) or your computer manufacturing company for assistance.
