Letter from the Librarian National L

Our Memorial Library has a new home with beautiful and appropriate furnishings and space. It is said to be the only library collection in Washington, DC that focuses on the period from the end of the American Revolution through the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent in 1815. Indeed, it may be the only such collection in existence.

Due to the diligent efforts of the past Librarian National, we have a CD of the database. One important goal for the next three years as we near the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is to continue to carefully grow the library and with the help of the membership this will happen. It is recommended that each state and chapter librarian purchase the CD of the database so they can check to see if the book is already in the database before offering it to the library.

Careful growth does mean that duplicates, periodicals, and books of a non-historical, biographical, or genealogical nature will not generally to accepted for the Library. A donation form is one this website. Please ask the Librarian National before sending donations and DO NOT SEND to 1461 or 1463 Rhode Island Avenue. We do not have staff to receive parcel delivery.

Chapter Librarian reports are to be sent to the State Librarians in time for the State Librarians to meet their report deadline to the Librarian National of their annual reports.  The form for the annual report is on the website under forms.  The reports of the State Librarians are due to the Librarian National on 15 February of each year. Reports received after that date cannot be considered for any awards.
